This documentary about free solo climber Alex Honnold is an entertaining experience. The film does a good job of explaining why free solo climbing is attractive to him personally, and the technical of climbing without coming across as condescending. The directing is also fantastic, with some incredible looking shots. The final 20 minutes is an incredibly nail-biting experience worth the price of admission alone. And adding the struggles the film crew had while filming gave this film a huge dose of realism. It has its issues, like it focuses a little bit too much on his romantic life, and the film does occasionally devolve into hero worship, but these are minor issues for what’s a great experience worth checking out for all except acrophobics.
