While the storytelling isn’t quite on par with some of Pixar’s best written scripts, this is a consistently entertaining, and poignant entry in their filmography, that just goes to show that sometimes sequels that you thought absolutely didn’t need to exist can surprise you and work really well. The characters feel consistent with their original characterizations, and their actors, once again, do great work in bringing these memorable characters to life. The animation, as you would expect for Pixar, is top notch and truly breathtaking, including one standout scene that perfectly captures the look and feel of a panic attack. The new characters are great; the humor is great; the climax is great; there’s just very little that this highly entertaining film gets wrong.
