“Lifelike” (2018)

This short film about a woman asking to rent an android that looks exactly like her former lover is decent, and shows a lot of potential for director Chris Vanderhorst. The plot starts off kind of familiar, but then the reveal takes a genuinely surprising, but natural turn. The film’s strongest asset is the off-kilter mood and dreary atmosphere. The film is well directed, and has decent cinematography. It is perhaps a touch too vague, but if Vanderhorst continues to improve his craft, then I am interested to see where he goes from here.
