“Andy” (2017)

This short film starts out pretty solid. It seems to tell the tale of a bullied high school kid, who gets falsely accused of sexual assault after going to a party. Lots of potential for great filmmaking. The film surprisingly takes its time, slowly and effectively building to the moment and seems to be ready to deal with the fallout and consequences. But then the film throws away all the goodwill it had set up with an out-of-nowhere and extremely hasty wish fulfilment ending that is deeply unsatisfying. Production wise, the film is actually quite strong, with good directing and solid performances. But the film’s script, particularly the ending, desperately needed to better thought out than this.
