“Only God Forgives” (2013)

This is a film that feels like it was designed to make people hate it. The film’s pacing is remarkably sluggish. The content is so lurid that most people will be repulsed by it. And the plot developments and character motivations are often borderline incomprehensible. So then why is it that I found myself spellbound and hypnotized by this film? Perhaps it’s the film’s gorgeous cinematography. Maybe the film’s content was just so extreme that I couldn’t help but admire it. Whatever the reason, I think a film this divisive and this willing to take risks is something that shouldn’t be ignored. The only way to know if you’ll like this film, is to watch it yourself. Me personally? I liked it.
