Another instance of a horror film with a great premise not living out to its full potential. Here, the film is remarkably restrained in terms of violence, surprisingly so for what I thought was going to be a torture porn. But if it’s not going to offer its audience buckets of blood and gore, the writing needs to be on point. It’s not here. The characters are either blank slates that are desperately given a character right before they’re dispatched of to garner unwarranted sympathy, or they’re inconsistent (in the case of the villains). The film’s final 20 minutes in particular are ridiculously nasty and pointlessly cruel for no real reason. There’s nothing smart, clever, or astute here; it’s just a pointless waste of time.
