“Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World” (2003)

A real treat and a very enjoyable, straightforward adventure film. Visually speaking, the film is a marvel, with gorgeous cinematography, excellent costume work, and gloriously filmed, realistic naval battle scenes. The film also features excellent camaraderie between the men on the ship that is easy to digest. It may not be the deepest film in the world, but it tells an old-fashioned adventure story, with the big-budget of a blockbuster, without feeling bombastic. The only issue I had is that there are some places where the pacing could’ve been tightened just a little bit. Otherwise, this film is an incredibly entertaining experience with very little to complain about.
