This quasi-prequel to Jackie Brown is a film that somehow manages to be simplistic and overly convoluted at the same time. There’s a surprising amount going on in this film, probably a bit too much, and it feels like different better avenues could’ve been taken. It’s an intriguing premise, it’s a great cast, and there are some funny moments. Whether or not you like this film is really going to be left up to personal taste. Either you’ll get into the film’s really bizarre tone, or you won’t. Either it clicks for you, or it doesn’t. Me personally, I did enjoy this film’s tone and it did click for me, and I got enough laughs in spite of its rather obvious problems.
