The premise of teens being stuck in a slasher film lends itself to great potential, potential this film never reaches. Because this film is PG-13, these characters never feel like they’re in an R rated slasher film. The characters also act stupidly, so stupidly that you have to wonder if any of these characters (not the ones in the film within the film), have actually watched any other horror film. If the whole point was to be meta, then the final product does little to show that. There are some funny moments, mostly one liners from Adam’s DeVine’s sleazy jock character. It’s marginally entertaining, but it feels butchered by the PG-13 rating, isn’t self-aware enough, and doesn’t say anything new about the slasher genre.
