This well-made, heartbreaking film about the VA scandal shows us a side of soldiers struggles that’s not talked about in film as much as the actual fighting; PTSD. This film approaches this complicated, difficult to discuss subject matter with nuance, empathy and without judgment. Writer/Director Jason Hall, who had previously written the script for American Sniper makes it clear he understands how to write soldiers; their camaraderie, their struggles, and their fears. The acting is all great from everyone involved. This film slipped under the radar for most people, which is a shame because this is a genuinely well-made war drama that deserves far more attention than it’s gotten.
