“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning” (2006)

This movie is what happens when you take the torture porn subgenre, and put in the hands of an incompetent director who has absolutely no idea what he’s doing. There’s so much grisly gore and gruesome torture scenes, but there’s no meaning or purpose behind any of them; the bland characters and minimalistic plot are merely a conduit for the film’s violence and nothing else. Excessive gore in and of itself is not scary. This is an ugly movie, from its overall unpleasant atmosphere, and even to its dreadful color palette and cinematography. Add on top of that, this film acts as an unnecessary and insulting origin story to one of cinema’s creepiest boogeymen, and you’ve got more than enough reason to skip this atrocity.
