The first legitimately good Transformers film. One of the problems with the previous films is that they feel so soulless and had self-indulgently overlong runtimes. Thankfully, this film knew this didn’t need to be two and half hours long, and mercifully keeps this succinct and breezy. This film also has a real and genuine heart at its center, with characters that we actually care about, with consistent characterization and clear motivations. On top of that, the robot fighting doesn’t drag on and on for what feels like an eternity. It’s just the right amount that we see cool fighting, but without it getting tiresome and headache inducing. It’s easily the most fun of the franchise, with lots of genuinely funny and memorable moments.
