I didn’t have high hopes for this film, but it turned out far better than I was expecting. This film is a strange combination of a soap-opera style domestic thriller mystery, and a dark comedy; a mixture that you would think wouldn’t work, but director Paul Fieg somehow manages to pull it off. Because of the film’s unique tone, this is a rare mystery film that truly does feel unpredictable, as it flawlessly switches between being funny and uneasy. Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively are amazing, and their characters are well written. This film is smart, intelligent and extremely entertaining. It takes some risky choices in terms of style and presentation that could’ve fallen flat if handled poorly, but definitely paid off.
