“Awake” (2007)

The film’s premise of a surgery patient with anesthetic awareness, feeling every slice of the scalpel sounds like it would be a terrifying premise for a film. But this film is anything but terrifying. As the film progresses, the plot becomes more ludicrous and laughable as an overly complicated and ridiculous conspiracy plot takes hold as opposed to the more interesting plot about anesthetic awareness. This film has the feel of a bad soap opera episode, right down to cheesy, campy melodrama that tries to pass itself off as emotional turmoil. Add on top of that medical inaccuracies that would make even your typical layman rolling their eyes, garnished with bad acting, and you have a recipe for a completely inept medical thriller.
